Stop writing prompts. Write briefs.

The mental switch that made AI output go from generic to usable for every client I've trained.

  • #start-here
  • #prompting

If you’ve ever hired a freelancer, you already know how to prompt. You just don’t think of it that way.

A good brief has four things: who it’s for, what it should do, what “good” looks like, and what to avoid. A good prompt has the exact same four things.

The brief template

  • Audience: who’s reading this, and what do they already believe?
  • Goal: what should they do after reading?
  • Example: paste one thing you’ve written that you liked.
  • Avoid: the words, tones, and claims you never want to see.

Fill that in once per product. Save it. Paste it at the top of every request. Done.

Why it works

AI tools aren’t bad at writing. They’re bad at guessing. Every blank you leave, the tool fills with the most average answer on the internet. Briefs remove the guessing.
